Do you use original softwares? Do you pay for your softwares?
Why not try free and open softwares? They are a good idea for those who want to replace expensive softwares and they are open source projects, witch means spyware-free.
The Simple Dollar blog made a list with 30 open source programs that he consider essential for Windows users. We can see the list and my opinions about it.
1. Firefox

That's what I use and love. No comments.
2. Thunderbird

Replaces Microsoft Outlook or Eudora
I use Gmail. It's quite simple and easy. But if you don't like web-based mails, Thunderbird could be your choice.
3. Sunbird

Replaces Microsoft Outlook's calendaring functions
I use Google Calendar, but Sunbird is also a good option.
4. Abiword

Replaces Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
That's what I use in my computer. No, I don't pay for an Office tool.

I am happy with AVG Free Edition.

You can use AOL Instant Messenger, Windows (MSN) Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger simultaneously with one program. There are other free packages that do this, but Gaim is stable and clean and simple. That's the one I have.
